Iran Exported Mineral Products to 40 Countries in 2009

Deputy Minister of Mining and Mineral Industries announced that more than 8 billion and 135 million dollars of minerals and mineral industries’ products was exported to 40 countries in 2009, thus with a 45 percent share, industrial exports ranked first in the country, IMIDRO’s PR reported.
Putting the share of mining industry about 30 percent, Mohammad Masoud Sami-Nejad noted that about 5 percent share in GDP is allocated to mining industry ,while 25 percent of the employment share is allocated to this sector.
Expressing that the mining sector has achieved 15 percent beyond the objectives of the Fourth Development Plan, he said: “The rate of investment in the mining sector has increased from $ 97 m at the beginning of the Plan to $ 434 m, while the objective of the plan was reaching $ 300 m investment.”
Sami-Nejad asserted that despite all the sanctions and financial crisis in the world, the merely safe investment in the world, was mining sector.
Pointing out that Iran with 68 kinds of mineral is among top 10 countries in the world enjoying the diversity of Mines, Deputy Minister of Mining and Mineral Industries noted: “Currently, we have 5673 active mining licenses in the country and 20 thousand and 375 units have been created in the vicinity of the mines. Likewise, based on the registered licenses, the rate of direct employment in mining section is 99 thousand and 131 people, while the rate in mineral industries units is 514 thousand people.
He further continued that based on the plan 700 new mines had to be added to the number of mines, while the achieved number is 840 mines, indicating 26.1 percent growth compared to the proceeding year. Also 1.7 billion tons were added to the country’s reservoirs, setting a new record in exploration.
