Exploration of Iron Ore Reserves in Iran
Date:
Tuesday 6 March 2007
Since privilege of Iran's steel industry is due to the existence of Iron ore reserves, exploration of ore deposits in all around the country is one of the main objectives of IMIDRO.
The presented statistics of undertaken explorations in recent years is an indicative of remarkable development in Iron ore exploration operations.
In 2004 the cost of ore exploration in subsidiaries (Iran Minerals Production and Supply Co. and National Iranian Steel Company) was about Rls 1360 million in 1000 meters core drilled area.
In 2005 and 2006 the costs enhanced respectively Rls 44000 million (21,000 meters core drilled area) and Rls 62000 million (40,000 meters core drilled area).
The cost of exploration in 10 months of the 2007 was around Rls 30,000 million in 29,000 meters core drilled area.
The initial and detailed exploration operations carrying out in promising areas in last 4 years resulted in exploration of reserves like North Anomali, Mishdovan, Chah Gaz, and Jalal Abad Zarand that added 700 million tones to the predicted reserves of the country.
The attached table displays Iran's iron ore resources and reserves.
The reserves with more than 10 million tones ore deposit are included in table.Meanwhile the deposits captioned others are related to private sector.
According to the table, the amount of Iran's geological ore resources is about 4.5 billion tones while 2.5 billion tones of the volume is categorized in C1,B (recoverable), about 0.8 billion tones of reserves are categorized as probable areas.
Exploration operations for development of other categories are underway.
Exploration of country's new anomaly is among main objectives of IMIDRO. In addition to geophysical studies in previous years, the initials for magnet measures will be exercise in promising areas.
